Dementia Specific Care

The Nightingale Suite is a purpose built Dementia Focused Care Unit, with a specific design to promote the care of people with Cognitive Impairment. All rooms are single bed, some of which are en suite. The spacious rooms in all areas are decorated to generate a calming effect. The central courtyard and surrounding landscaped grounds provide a sense of wellbeing. As well as a spacious dining room, we provide a separate activities room, a quiet room and TV area.

The Nightingale Suite provides accommodation for up to 34 residents, male and female, over the age of 18. Care on this unit is Dementia Specific.

All staff working in Hamilton Park Care Facility have and continue to receive training on dementia specific care. This training enables us to provide best evidence based care and practice to residents who have been affected by dementia and cognitive impairment. 

​

We shall continue to develop our services to enable us to continue to offer help and support our residents and their loved ones whose lives are irreversibly changed by dementia and cognitive impairment. There are a variety of activities taking place daily in Nightingale, guided by the activity co-ordinator e.g. arts and crafts, sensory stimulation, music, reminiscence & pet therapy amongst others.

There is a large dining area with an open plan kitchen area where residents can also enjoy baking & prepare snacks under the supervision and guidance of the staff. 

The spacious bedrooms, some en-suite, are decorated to generate a calming effect.

The central courtyard was re-developed into a beautiful Sensory Garden in 2014.  There is direct access from the communal area to the garden, providing an area for relaxation and multi-sensory experience for our Residents and visitors to enjoy daily.

An additional patio has been built for afternoon tea where the residents can relax and enjoy their time with other residents and their family.

A sensory room was also built to help enhance feelings of comfort and well-being, relieve stress and pain and maximise our Residents potential to focus, all of which help improve communication and memory.

Nightingale has a spacious television area where the residents can relax, watch TV, DVDs, chat & participate in the daily flow of activities and life on the unit. There is also a modern hairdresser salon located in Nightingale, which is used by Residents from all units in the facility.
